Three Waters

Three Waters – Presentation to Council

On Tuesday March 22nd, Grey Power President Ross Fallen was the opening community speaker at Council’s meeting. He gave a quick summary of Three Waters, and our national Federation’s concerns. He also advised the councillors we had met with the Mayor on the topic late last year.

At this meeting we requested public meetings for face-to-face input. Technology is not always kind and especially to those who struggle with social media. President Ross thanked Council for its website, press releases and internet input requests but stressed that for a section of our seniors, this is not accessible due to low income and/or skill set. This is called Digital Exclusion!

Our request was mentioned favourably by the mayor throughout the meeting. The Councillors were in fact meeting on Three Waters. What a coincidence! Council unanimously voted to oppose Three Waters at this time, and one of the related motions included public engagement!

Our committee wish to thank all who aided us over the last 6 months in seeking this on behalf of the people of Whanganui. We look forward to a positive community meeting opportunity of … where to now, rather than the past. Seniors 50+ make a difference!

Thank you. Ngā mihi

Ross Fallen, Grey Power Wanganui Association, 29th March 2022
